After having been buying gifts for Christmas, what better way than to keep spending money buying more things and seeing how what you bought a month ago is now worth half? For all those people who buy is an Olympic sport, on this page you can see how long until the winter sales in full detail.
Although sales are associated with a new concept typical of modern societies, their origin dates back to the 1930s.
After the beginning of the Great Depression in the United States, a group of companies dedicated to the retail trade decided to create a business group to strengthen against the drop in consumption. Some of these were Abraham & Straus, Filene's, F&R Lazarus & Co, OH and Bloomingdale's resulting in Federated Department Stores Inc., which quickly became a department store that are still present to this day although, currently under the name of Macy's.
The president of Federated Department Stores Inc. at that time, Fred Lazarus Jr., devised a system with the goal that anyone could purchase any product through a line of credit. Under the motto 'buy now and pay later' he brought these products to everyone. P>
However, the sales concept as such begins when these stores decide to put seasonal stock on sale at a lower price to get rid of it. This is when the idea arises of creating a specific period where companies that have not been able to sell their stock during the year, do so during these days, since it is more profitable to sell these products at a lower price than to store them. p>
What's more, the president of these department stores, in 1939, managed to convince the president of the United States to move Thanksgiving a week earlier so that there would be more time to buy Christmas gifts.
Such was the magnitude of the success of these warehouses that the idea crossed the Atlantic a few years later.
Some experts place the beginning of the idea of sales in the early 1940s, after the Civil War, although there is research that indicates that the first sales were carried out in 1935 by the hand of Sederías Carretas, the predecessor of Galerías Preciados.
▣ Make a shopping list if you do not want your pocket to look sore, again, after having been buying Christmas gifts the previous days. You have to take advantage of these dates to buy what you need, neither more nor less, since there will be juicy discounts. In this way we avoid compulsive purchases and we will not forget anything that we really need.
▣ Set a realistic budget according to your economy. The 50-20-30 rule applies: Half of the salary goes to fixed expenses, 20% to save and 30% to extra expenses such as discounts.
▣ Compare all offers to find the best price. Go to the stores at the least influential hours, for example at noon, to be able to compare calmly, or you can also do it online through the stores' web pages or their apps.
▣ Forget about the new collections since these will not have any kind of discount and therefore you will not save anything.
